When this couple purchased an old ranch house from the 1960s, they got to work making it into their dream home. Along the way, they installed some temporary flooring, but had since neglected to fully renovate the space. When they finally got around to putting down real hardwood, they went all out.
They started with wooden beams taken from an 1840s cotton mill. The couple estimated that the wood was between 250 and 300 years old.
They had the beams sawed to fit their space and got to work.
First, they removed the old laminate flooring and foam padding.
Because it was still in good shape, they managed to resell it on Craigslist.
Then they added a layer of roofing felt, which would remain beneath the new flooring.
Finally, it was time to start laying the wood.
Once the flooring was installed, it was time to put on the finishing touch.
Wanting the wood to look as natural as possible, while still appearing finished, they applied Boiled Lindseed Oil to give it a nice shine and a darker tint.
There”s nothing like a couple of recliners to really bring a room together.
These floors turned out incredibly. It really is impressive how they took this old wood and made it into something new. Hopefully the rest of their renovations go as well as this did!
