Redditor TheNinjaSammich got a nasty surprise this week as he was about to prepare pasta for dinner. He opened a brand new package of spaghetti, ready to eat, when he saw something unexpected moving around in the box.
He found something weird looking at the bottom of his pasta. What could it be?
Breaking the pasta in half revealed a bunch of these gross little critters burrowing into and eating TheNinjaSammich”s pasta. Eww.
It turns out the little bugs aren”t alien invaders. They”re actually wheat weevils.
Wheat weevils aren”t poisonous to humans, but they are annoying. They like to lay their eggs in wheat, oats, barley, rice, and corn. They eat the surrounding food when their eggs hatch. If you”re not careful, they can infest wheat and grain items in your kitchen.
You can check your grain products for weevils by immersing them in water. If they float to the surface, they”re probably infested. The best way to get rid of wheat weevils is to simply throw away the infested food.
The worst part of this whole thing is that TheNinjaSammich went hungry that evening. This just goes to show that even when you”re buying things from the grocery store, you should always make sure to check for nasty surprises.
