Maria Jose Cristerna may look like a demon queen of the underworld, but she is actually a former lawyer, a loving mother of four, and a support speaker for women in Mexico suffering from domestic abuse.
Dubbed “The Vampire Lady” by the media, her body modifications reflect the harsh, gang-influenced environment she grew up in. They also serve to empower women on her performances around the world.
Since she was young, she has been creatively mutating her body. In addition to her completely tattooed body, she has fully functional fangs and titanium “horns” surgically inserted onto her skull.
Maria Jose Cristerna was born in Guadalajara, Mexico, a notorious hub for several violent gangs in the country.
She grew up in an extremely religious family, but that didn”t necessarily contribute to her need to rebel.
For many years she was abused by her former husband.
After her divorce, she began holding talks with women around the Guadalajara area about domestic abuse, which gradually gained attention to women all over Mexico.
She now has a busy scheduling performing these talks along with a video show, bringing along with her a DJ.
Despite her international travel, Maria still makes time to raise her four boys and has retains a special relationship with God. About her religion she says, “God lives inside of me and I believe it is what I do daily for others and my actions that make me who I am, not how I look or my appearance.”
Looks can be deceiving, I guess. She may look like one of the bad mutants in the X-men, but don”t be surprised when you see her showing up at your kid”s PTA.
