To survive in the New York City subway system, you must always be prepared for impending danger. When riding the subway, it”s best to always keep a look out for giant rats, fast-moving breakdancers, and thieves out to steal your phone. These are actual threats NYC residents face daily on their preferred method of transport.
Perhaps the greatest threat of all are the trains themselves. These multi-ton speed demons can destroy anything in their path. They can also be volatile even when they aren”t moving, as one subway worker learned.
After the vested man jumped down on the tracks to remove debris, he quickly learned that doing so would bring grave consequences.
The worker”s forced removal of the trash quickly escalated into a loud explosion.
Watch the short but terrifying event below. It might make you think twice about riding the subway again.

The trash on the track turned out to be a garbage can deliberately thrown there by a troublemaker. The explosion itself was caused by his tool”s interaction with the third rail, which is the highly electrified (and deadly) power system for the city”s trains.
Luckily, the man came out of the explosion without a scratch, and was able to remove the can from the track. Police are currently looking for the awful individuals who threw the can there in the first place and likely caused a lot of unhappy people to be late for work.
