Creepy Christmas, Day 20: On Christmas Eve, Finland Makes Their Graveyards Scarily Beautiful.

Welcome to our first annual ViralNova Presents: 25 Days Of Creepy Christmas special section! Every day, from December 1st to December 25th, we”re posting a new Christmas-themed article guaranteed to get you in the creepy holiday spirit.

The graveyard may seem like the perfect place to celebrate Halloween, but actually it”s the setting for one of the most beautiful Finnish Christmas traditions. Christmas is all about family, but the Finnish feel that deceased family members should also be included in the holiday festivities.

On Christmas Eve, the families go out to cemeteries to place candles and lanterns around the graves of their relatives, making these beds for the dead glitter with life. The result is quite breathtaking.

I think the Finns might be onto something here. This is much more beautiful than creepy. In fact it”s actually not creepy at all. Maybe we should start honoring our dead relatives on Christmas like this.
