Reddit user bruck7″s office was boring. Offices are supposed to be professional, it”s true, but “professional” doesn”t have to be a synonym for “soul-crushingly tedious,” either. Luckily for bruck7, the office was full of creative types who were all about sprucing the place up.
The walls in the office were pretty dull, and a dull workspace is terrible for office morale.
Still, the decoration needed to be something easy to put up and easy to remove, since most offices aren”t usually thrilled when tenants take it upon themselves to start painting walls.
But this clever Redditor wasn”t about to let a little thing like building codes prevent making the office into a fun, vibrant place.
After brainstorming on the perfect decorations, bruck7 and several other people from the office gathered on a Saturday (so no, this was not done during working hours) to install the office artwork. They even used all things office as an inspiration when it came to the medium: Post-Its!
After careful calculations, bruck7 determined that the project would require 8,024 Post-Its in total, and about 9,000 were purchased, so there were a lot left over. Memos for everyone!
The colleagues gathered on a Saturday for the installation. The borders were marked out with tape, and the application of the Post-Its began.
The design begins to take shape.
And the first panel is complete! Now just five more to go.
The team decided that they wanted something colorful and fun for the office. Superheroes were the favorite choice because they”re easy to recognize and relate to, and the pixelated design was chosen because it would be the easiest to recreate, had a fun and cute look, and didn”t require any particular artistic skill. Plus it was something that everyone could help make!
Unfortunately, the team discovered, the air conditioning didn”t come on in the building on the weekend, so it got “pretty gross” by the end, but the team kept plugging away with good spirits. And with some liquid encouragement.
The finished project!
The office is now colorful and cheerful, without being too distracting or overwhelming.
We”re still curious as to the market for black Post-Its, though.
If a group of coworkers voluntarily meeting on a Saturday in an office with no AC to stick Post-Its on the walls for hours doesn”t sound like they all have some seriously awesome office morale and dedication, I don”t know what does. A workspace should inspire and encourage, and a little decoration can go a long way towards doing that.
And in case you were wondering, it was very well received. Bruck7″s boss participated in the installation and the office has become quite popular throughout the building.
This DIY wall art is also perfect for kids” rooms, because it”s easy to put up, pretty cheap, and kids can help out. It”s easy to remove, as well, when tastes change.
If you”re interested in creating Post-It art of your own, here are the patterns bruck7 used for the office project. Each is 34 Post-Its high, so adjust accordingly.
