When Logan Snyder took his boat out the other day, he had no clue what was about to happen to him. In his home of Wasilla, Alaska, it”s not uncommon to spot a beaver or two bobbing through the water while out and about in the wilderness, but what he first thought was just another little guy taking a swim ended up being something in dire need of his help.
The first clue that something was wrong was that the furry, brown animal in the water didn”t quickly swim away as Snyder got near.
He figured that he better investigate further to make sure that whatever it was, the creature was alright.
As luck may have it, he took his boat out on exactly the right day at exactly the right time…
Because this baby moose had fallen in, and could hardly keep his nose above the water to breathe. Snyder took action immediately as the mother moose watched from the bank. Worried that the defensive mom might try to harm him for getting near her baby, Snyder took that risk and fished the 25-pound baby out of the water and away from doom.
For a while, the little guy lay almost motionless on the bow of the boat…
Coughing up water and regaining strength. But soon enough, he was able to support his own weight and nuzzle his nose up against his human hero as if to say, “Thank you so much!”
After Snyder saw that the moose was well enough to return to land, he steered his boat up to the shore and hoisted the animal up.
This is the baby making its way back towards its mother. Snyder didn”t want to spook the momma and baby by sticking around to capture their reunion on camera, but he considers himself the lucky one in this whole ordeal. Some might see it the other way around that the moose family was lucky to have such a Good Samaritan cross their path right when they needed him most but this Alaskan native was honored to help.

It”s always amazing when wild animals allow us to help them, even after certain members of our species have treated them with disrespect.
